Wazzuuuuuup?

What's ZUP?  ZUP is the new watersports board that made its debut on Shark Tank.   My kids ordered one for me for Father's Day this year, and we have had a blast with it so far.  Start with an oversized kneeboard, add hand-grips on the side, sandal bindings for your feet and then engineer a no-pinch rope handle so you can get up on the board without holding the handle.  You can lay on it, kneeboard on it, stand on it and surf on it.  It's great for all ages, but it is particularly good for getting first-time water enthusiasts started.  They literally have to do nothing but lay on the board, and they are having fun behind the boat.  From there, they can do anything that they feel comfortable with - and the smallest riders can even ride with an adult.  Click here for more photos.  (Apparently the whazup-tongue-out makes riding the board more fun).  And if you are feeling nostalgic, check out these two videos that made "wazzup" famous before there was a ZUP board. (Budweiser and Scary Movie).

Lake Hartwell Dream Spot Update

We have had above average rainfall this season, but that hasn't slowed progress at the Lake Hartwell Dream Spot. Since our last update, footers were poured, basement walls were poured and an Elgin septic system was installed.  The Elgin system minimizes the size of the drain field, leaving the owners with more room for their home, driveway, garage and patio areas. My inbox was filled up with "Happy Independence Day" greetings from other agents this week.  I don't like being just another "me too" REALTOR, but after last night's fireworks show on Lake Hartwell, I had to share this video with the rest of you.  For those of you that haven't found your spot on the lake yet, I hope you will allow us to help you, so you can join us next year for this great event.

Lost Art

You won't find this lost art in any museum, but you can find it on a Saturday morning in the summer at Lake Hartwell.  With the proliferation of wake boats and wake sports, it's rare to find a pure slalom run behind an inboard ski boat these days.  We captured this one last Saturday and wanted to share it with you.  For a personal real estate tour of this ski cove with Tom and Michael, click here.  We would love to help you find your perfect spot for a slalom run, a wake set or a place to find that next big bass.

Light up the lake

The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays at Lake Hartwell.  Vacation home owners make it a priority to get to the lake to enjoy their homes with family and friends.  With the fourth falling on a Wednesday this year, the celebrating will surely get extended to the weekend before and the weekend after the fourth - and the city of Hartwell always get things started even earlier with their fireworks show at Big Oaks Recreation Center THIS Saturday, June 23rd.  Private fireworks will be all around the lake every night, but Chickasaw Point is hosting a show on June 30th at the golf course (limited viewing from the lake), and two of the largest private shows are near Hardy Farms at buoy T89 on the Tugaloo Channel and in Gumlog Creek near Tugaloo State Park.  Both are on Saturday, July 7th and both shows are paid for privately, so donations are welcomed to help offset expenses.  Come see us and celebrate safely!

Update from last week:  Congratulations to Bill and Cindy Thompson for winning the $100 Overton's gift card from last Saturday's tour of homes!

Lake Hartwell Home Showcase

The annual Lake Hartwell Home Showcase is this Saturday from 11am to 3pm.  You can tour all 6 homes at your own pace, but make sure not to miss this great home at 555 Panorama Drive in Lavonia and register for a chance to win a $100 gift cardto Overton's or Cabella's.  f you have been thinking of finding your own spot on the lake, there couldn't be a better time than right now.

(150 Northlake Drive has been replaced with 1139 Chandlers Ferry Road.  You can visit the properties in any order.)

Air Time

I try to limit the amount of "air-time" I give to my family in these weekly notes, but this week I couldn't resist.   We had our whole family up at Lake Hartwell for Memorial Day weekend.  The weather was supposed to be a washout, but Saturday and Sunday turned out to be delightful.  Our older grandkids have always enjoyed tubing, but this year, 2-year old Caroline got in on the action, and our 7-year old Evan definitely got his share of "air-time".   We have been using the Airhead Gforce 3 tubes for over 10 years. We love the size and durability.   Check out this short video that Trey, my son-in-law, put together.

Running To Wine (not whine)

Just a few weeks after the Hartwell Dam Run, local runners have another shot at conquering the terrain at The Crusher (12k/6k/1 mile) Trail race at Yonah Mountain Vineyards in Cleveland, GA just north of Lake Hartwell.  The trail is a mixed surface, circling through the vineyards and ending at the winery.  Click here to see a video of the full course.  Adult runners of age are treated to a glass of wine at the conclusion of the race.  If you like wine, but not running, check out all other opportunities to enjoy the winery here.
