I posted previously about my favorite Lavonia coffee shop, Gloria's Daily Grind. They have great coffee, a cozy atmosphere and the friendliest staff around. Now, Gloria's is not just for breakfast. They offer a simple menu of sandwiches at lunch time. I had the grilled pimento cheese last week, and it was delicious. For all of you city folk that are coming up for the eclipse on Monday (the full eclipse, not just the partial one you can't look at), make sure to stop by Gloria's and save time to let us help you find your spot on the lake (we work in the dark, too).
If you are near Lake Hartwell this weekend, you may hear a buzz in the air. The ProWatercross National Tour is making its next stop at Lake Hartwell for some serious PWC racing. The show features pros and amateurs. Besides a ton of speed, spectators will also see some amazing trick riding. Click here for a video recap of last year and all the details and make sure to save some time to let us help you find your spot on the lake.
Hartwell Main Street hosts musical artists on Depot Street on the first Saturday of the month. This Saturday, Dianne Durett and Soul Suga take the stage to light up the town. Dianne is a singer/songwriter/producer and has performed with Sting, The Indigo Girls and Greg Allman. The music begins at 7PM and admission is free. Come early and let us help you find your spot on the lake.
When I was growing up, everyone coveted the inboard ski boats because they had the smallest wakes possible for slalom skiing. Now the rage is wake surfing, and the bigger the wake the better. You will likely recognize that the lake in this video is not Lake Hartwell, but this has to be some of the most amazing wake surfing video I have seen to date. Enjoy, and give us a call to schedule a time to let us help you find your spot on the lake.
If you have been living in the dark, you may not have heard that there is a total solar eclipse crossing the nation on August 21st. A partial eclipse will be viewable to everyone in the country, but the full eclipse, where the moon blocks the sun completely, can only be viewed along the path of totality, which happens to cross right over Lake Hartwell. All of Lake Hartwell is in this path, but the closer you are to the center of the path, the longer the total eclipse will last, with a maximum of 2 minutes and 40 seconds. The path is very narrow so a total eclipse will not be viewable from Atlanta. Most of the lake is in the southwestern section of the path, so locations to the northwest including Clemson, Seneca and Anderson (Six and Twenty Creek) will have the longest total eclipse. During the total eclipse, you can see the sun's atmosphere, the corona. The total eclipse will begin about 2:30 in GA and SC. Please make sure to follow all safety precautions while viewing the eclipse. Special eclipse glasses or other eclipse viewing devices are recommended. And in case you were hoping for a musical flashback with Gloria, here you go.
The number of homes sold was up 32% over last quarter and total sales volume for homes was up 25%. The average sales price for homes was $357,000, down slightly from last quarter but up from $319,000 in the second quarter of 2016. 33 lake lots were sold which is more than twice the number of lots sold last quarter. The average sales price was up slightly to $142,000. The number of active properties for sale was up in second quarter which is typical for this time of year with sellers trying to time listing with active buyers. The absorption rate measures the length of time it would take to sell the available inventory at the existing rate of sales and that measure was reduced from 12 months to 10 months, bringing us closer to a balanced market. With interest rates still low and good properties still available, there couldn't be a better time to let us help you find your spot on the lake.
The SpotOnTheLake team has been busy this year helping 52 people buy or sell properties. But in the midst of the work, even we had to take some time to enjoy the lake with our kids and grandkids over the holiday weekend. My son-in-law, Trey, put together this fun video of some extreme tubing - SpotOnTheLake style. Now, BACK TO WORK!
In February of 2012, I got a call from Bill McKenzie in Texas. Bill had started a camp there and wanted to start a sister camp in the southeast. I met with Bill and his team multiple times and showed them some available properties. In October of 2014, Pine Cove Camps selected a 115 acre tract on Lake Hartwell for their first southeast camp. After two and a half years of development, Pine Cove Chimney Point hosted its fist campers this month. Chimney Point is a family camp. Parents don't drop their kids off here, they stay for a full week of fun with opportunities for activities with and without the kids. Click here to see a glimpse of the fun from last week.
July 4th is one of the most exciting times of the year at Lake Hartwell. There will be private fireworks shows all over the lake the weekend prior to Independence Day, but Hartwell kicks off the fireworks THIS Saturday, June 24th, near the dam at Big Oaks Recreation Center. A lot of people miss this show because it is over a week before the holiday, but this year you have no excuses! You can enjoy the show from the shore or from the water. Click here for more information and make sure to save some time to let us help you find your spot on the lake.
This Saturday, Northeast Georgia Living Magazine is sponsoring the Hartwell Lake Homes Showcase. 8 homes will be open from 11AM to 3PM. You can choose as many homes as you would like to visit and cruise at your own pace. But if you can only make it to one home, make sure to visit 814 Reed Creek Point. This home is loaded with charm and sits right on top of the lake overlooking the main channel. Click here for a link to the map with all 8 properties.
