Most of you know that Lake Hartwell is part of a three lake system known as the Savannah River System.   The three dams were built in the 40's and 50's for flood control, power generation and recreation.  I hadn't really stopped to think of the engineering feat that was accomplished until I saw this video of the Thurmond dam being built.  I know many of you won't have 20 minutes to watch this, but it really is fascinating what they were able to accomplish without high powered computers and instruments.  On a somewhat more current note, does anyone know what major Hollywood film series from this decade featured digitized images of Thurmond Dam?  The answer is just a click away.
